I came across this new law that some states are passing restricting people from wearing their pants in a manner called ’saggin’. Some states are making this a misdemeanor offense and will actually issue a fine to the perpetrator. One state is saying they will issue jail time up to six months and a $500 fine for underwear exposure! They are saying pull up or pay up! Others want to issue a fine and community service.

And this brings me to women’s low rider jeans. Some of the laws state that the pant line is not to be more than 2 inches below the waste. Well what about those pants that are just built that way! Not everyone’s waist is in the same spot as we are NOT all created equal. I personally have a high waist, defining waist by the smallest point of the mid-section. For me, that is above my belly button. Personally, I can’t stand to have pants that wear that high up on me. And most all of my jeans are low riders. This is my personal preference! I don’t go around telling people they have to lower their pant line why should I be made to raise mine?

Now, that said. I do feel that those men that walk around with their entire rear hanging out only covered by a pair of boxer shorts is ridiculous. But that’s me. I simply laugh and roll my eyes, but do I feel they deserve to pay a fine? No, not really. Unless, of course, something inappropriate were to pop out, then definitely fine them.

If we’re going to make laws about pants too low then what about shorts too high? Or crop top shirts baring too much midriff? Next thing you know we’ll all be forced to wear uniforms just to go to the market! I for one am not looking forward to that day.

Let’s think about this. Seriously. I realize there should be some laws stating that yes, when we go outside we must have our clothes on. But honestly, who is being hurt by seeing someone’s Hanes logo on their skivvies? I can understand dress codes in schools and such but are we taking this too far by taking it to our streets?

Its all about me today ;) or should I say you!

In our daily schedules these days we forget about the most important thing. Our well being! We’re so over run with work, the kids, the cleaning, the shopping, the I need to do this or that, etc, etc. You get the idea… We forget about ourselves and the stress levels rise sometimes to outrageous rates, and our bodies in turn take the beating. I don’t just mean physical but mental as well. There are many things one can do for oneself to keep from having a whole body breakdown!

If you can, try to schedule things as organized as possible. This will help dramatically on feeling overwhelmed by the daily must-do’s. Don’t forget to schedule some alone time as well ;) I’ll get into that more in a second.

Keep a detailed shopping list to cut down on the last minute runs to the grocery store because you’re out of milk. This may seem weird and maybe I should have added it to the Meme but I have what I call my “Master Shopping List” saved on my computer as a Word document. I’m able to do a quick scan of what’s in the cupboards, compare, and then buy. I try not to let commonly used items, such as pepper, become too low on supply. I like to keep cans of beans, cans of corn, and huge container of salsa to make my Quick 3 Bean Chili on days that I don’t feel like cooking from scratch or those days when I’m just really pressed for time. Also, stock up on the things you can! And please don’t forget about nutrition! I love the saying you are what you eat. If you put a lot of fast fixin’s into your body, you’re filling yourself with unwanted chemicals and a serious lack of nutrition. There are healthy and quick alternatives. However, eating that TV dinner every now and again isn’t going kill you. But just remember, as I was taught in my Traditional Chinese Medicine class, all things in moderation.

One thing I personally like to do is have a general meal plan for the week, or sometimes even the entire month. I’m not saying to write out anything like the school lunch menu that the kids bring home, but simply know what you have and know what you are going to do with it. If you want to take the time to plan out a weekly menu then by all means, go for it! Just leave room for some flexibility in case something unexpected arises.

Now that we’ve got our meetings, appointments, school functions, grocery shopping, and meals planned we can plan time for ourselves. What do you like to do for you? I like to take a hot bath with fresh ground ginger and lilac essential oils. I also like to get lost in a good book! Exercise makes some wonderful me time and is often over looked. A brisk walk in the morning is a good one too. You could even take in a new movie or treat yourself to an ice cream. What ever that you find yourself doing that brings a smile to your face and some relief to your body and mind is important! Indulge yourself at least once a week to maintain your mental well being which will in turn help you to maintain your physical well being.

I’ve shared some of my Me Time ideas and I’d love to hear yours!

I just love the way that when going to an appointment you are required to be on time or else they insist on rescheduling. However, you may have to sit there for 5 minutes to an hour before you are seen! Or how companies schedule a home visit, such as to install cable between 8 AM and 5 PM and you are supposed to be home during that time frame in case they pop in, and then they don’t even show up only to call you and let you know they won’t get to you until tomorrow, so yet another day is wasted.

How do we get it through the heads of these people that we have a life too? And that our schedule is just as important as theirs?

Our time is a valued commodity. Can we charge them for the time we’ve lost waiting for them? Or get discounts on services they still need to render? I think this would be an ideal option for us to have! What is your opinion?

Ok here we go… My sister sent me this. I’m sure it was to get me more involved with blogging ;) and I’m totally cool with that! (It does take some time away from my video games though.) But honestly, isn’t that a good thing? The hard part for me is tagging the random people considering I don’t know very many people with a blog! However, I’m sure Shannon can help me out with that part.

First the rules:

1. Link to the person’s blog who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself
4. Tag seven random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog

1. My gum has to be taken out of the right side of the pack. You know, the side where the wrapper is folded over and gives you that easy little flap for pulling it out? If it’s taken out of the end or both ends, the pack is lost and I must buy a new one. My kids happen to love that… sneaky little devils.

2. I admit it. I’m a Xena: Warrior Princess freak. Yes, still! I have a 6 foot cardboard stand-up of her that I’ve had since 1999, and it makes me very sad that her sword, after all these years, is bent.

3. I have more pairs of shoes than I do outfits!

4. I am the most difficult person to live with that I know of.

5. With all my holistic beliefs and the knowledge that its pure poison to the body, I live on soda!

6. I think I love watching Hannah Montana more than my daughter does.

7. I pick the veins out of my boneless, skinless, chicken breast before I can eat it.

I’m tagging:

Jalapeno Mama

Kate Ericksen

Katherine Reschke

There I was sitting peacefully at the keyboard with the usual background noise of the TV and the kids playing in the other room. A familiar ‘jingle’ rings out from the TV as normal when I hear my nephew call out, “That’s Zales.” Finding the statement rather odd for an eight year old child to say while playing Transfomers I turn my attention to the TV. A holiday gift giving commercial for a jewelry store was playing. I hear a pair of footsteps come up behind me.

“See, I told you it was Zales.” spoken very matter-of-factly. I turn to look at my nephew and my daughter as they walk off back into the play room. Redirecting my attention once again to the TV I was able to catch the end of the commercial, and in fact it was a Zales commercial.

Sitting back down to the computer I think to myself, “Wow.” A commercial obviously targeted to the older community has seemingly left its mark upon our youth.

Isn’t it funny to think about just how much our children truly absorb and pick up from their environment? Here I was listening to background noise and lost in thought while the children hard at playing stopped to listen and confirm that this ‘jingle’ was in fact from the company that they thought it to be from. I wouldn’t have thought twice about the familiar musical notes coming from the TV but the younger generation did.

Have you ever thought about the many things that our children pick up from outside sources throughout their lives? Be it a musical ‘jingle’ from a commercial, a swear word from a television show, a reprimand from a neighbor, or something more cynical, our children are listening, absorbing every little stimulus in their life and inevitably learning from it. So now I ask you, who is really teaching our children? Is it us as parents or our society? How much of an impact do we leave on our children’s lives? How much should we leave? Is the occasional slip of the tongue teaching our children that it’s ok swear? Are we, as parents, taking responsibility for our own actions or are we teaching our kids to blame their mistakes on others?

They listen and watch everything that we do. We are their mentors, their teachers. I know I for one am not perfect by any means. And this experience is not going to make some life changing impact on me, however, it has made stop and think. I guess that’s a start, right?
