Its all about me today ;) or should I say you!

In our daily schedules these days we forget about the most important thing. Our well being! We’re so over run with work, the kids, the cleaning, the shopping, the I need to do this or that, etc, etc. You get the idea… We forget about ourselves and the stress levels rise sometimes to outrageous rates, and our bodies in turn take the beating. I don’t just mean physical but mental as well. There are many things one can do for oneself to keep from having a whole body breakdown!

If you can, try to schedule things as organized as possible. This will help dramatically on feeling overwhelmed by the daily must-do’s. Don’t forget to schedule some alone time as well ;) I’ll get into that more in a second.

Keep a detailed shopping list to cut down on the last minute runs to the grocery store because you’re out of milk. This may seem weird and maybe I should have added it to the Meme but I have what I call my “Master Shopping List” saved on my computer as a Word document. I’m able to do a quick scan of what’s in the cupboards, compare, and then buy. I try not to let commonly used items, such as pepper, become too low on supply. I like to keep cans of beans, cans of corn, and huge container of salsa to make my Quick 3 Bean Chili on days that I don’t feel like cooking from scratch or those days when I’m just really pressed for time. Also, stock up on the things you can! And please don’t forget about nutrition! I love the saying you are what you eat. If you put a lot of fast fixin’s into your body, you’re filling yourself with unwanted chemicals and a serious lack of nutrition. There are healthy and quick alternatives. However, eating that TV dinner every now and again isn’t going kill you. But just remember, as I was taught in my Traditional Chinese Medicine class, all things in moderation.

One thing I personally like to do is have a general meal plan for the week, or sometimes even the entire month. I’m not saying to write out anything like the school lunch menu that the kids bring home, but simply know what you have and know what you are going to do with it. If you want to take the time to plan out a weekly menu then by all means, go for it! Just leave room for some flexibility in case something unexpected arises.

Now that we’ve got our meetings, appointments, school functions, grocery shopping, and meals planned we can plan time for ourselves. What do you like to do for you? I like to take a hot bath with fresh ground ginger and lilac essential oils. I also like to get lost in a good book! Exercise makes some wonderful me time and is often over looked. A brisk walk in the morning is a good one too. You could even take in a new movie or treat yourself to an ice cream. What ever that you find yourself doing that brings a smile to your face and some relief to your body and mind is important! Indulge yourself at least once a week to maintain your mental well being which will in turn help you to maintain your physical well being.

I’ve shared some of my Me Time ideas and I’d love to hear yours!
